Diverse engelske Modesty Blaise udgaver

COMICS REVUE has been reprinting Modesty Blaise since issue No. 26, starting with panel No. 6625, following through right to the end of the strip (panel 10183) in issue 187 (except issues 30, 37-39 and 43). From Comics Revue 188 onward Rick Norwood has been reprinting the strips from the very beginning in chronological order. Maybe he will someday accomplish what many publishers have promised to do but never fulfilled – The Complete Modesty Blaise Collection. He’s already well beyond halfway point …

Besides Comics Revue Rick Norwood reprinted older strips in Modesty Blaise Quarterly, Comics Revue Annual #2 and Comics Revue Special #1.

Recently he has also published two trade paperbacks with collections of three stories each, Live Bait and Lady in the Dark.

“I’m sometimes asked: Which do you prefer writing — book or strip?

Answer: It doesn’t matter which medium I’m writing in, I always like any of the others best because they’re easier. That’s a kind of smart-ass interview answer, though there’s a lot of truth in it. But come right down to it and I have to say that the book gives more satisfaction. There’s elbow room to give more nuances of feeling and to say what’s going on inside your characters. There’s more room for humour; you can pause for a little character-bit that would take four days in a strip, and then wouldn’t work anyway because of the twenty-four hours between each strip. There’s more room for exposition; you can take time out to give a precise description of Willie´s handmade knives, which is technically very interesting – but watch it, because such technical stuff doesn’t interest everybody, and if you get carried away you lose your reader.

But I suppose the main reason a book feels more satisfying is because it’s a solo effort — no actors, no artist, no director, just you and the words and the reader. You can’t blame anyone but yourself.”
