The good news for all you loyal Dan Dare devotees is that the good publisher Titan Books in the UK will continue their extensive reprint of Dan Dare with pantheon artist Frank Bellamy’s classic run on this legendary sf strip from “Eagle”. Bellamy only worked on the “Dan Dare” strip for a brief period, 1959-60, a period in which he completely redesigned the look of the strip.

Classic Dan Dare: Trip to Trouble
Frank Bellamy is an artist perhaps best known for his work on Eagle, including the comic strip Heros the Spartan. He achieved his biggest ever readership when he took over the daily newspaper strip Garth in the Daily Mirror. Before that, he’d provided illustration work for a variety of publications including the Radio Times, becoming the first comic strip artist with work to appear on the cover.
Frank Hampson was perhaps best known as the creator and original artist for Dan Dare, but he also illustrated a number of children’s books for Ladybird. Dan Dare was first published in the British comic The Eagle in April 1950, and was last published as an ongoing series in 1996 — although Dan had undergone more than a few changes by then.
