Disney forlaget Gemstone i økonomisk knibe

Så er den gal med det amerikanske Disney og EC tegneserie forlag Gemstone. De skylder deres trykker $373.000. Mon ikke Steve Geppi, som også ejer Diamond distributionen, finder ud af noget? Vi kan ikke leve uden vores Floyd Gottfredson, Paul Murry, Al Hubbard, Tony Strobl, William Van Horn, og hvad de nu kræser med. fra Disney Comics Worldwide: Bad news from Gemstone Publishing, the publisher of Disney comics in the United States and the only publisher in the world that still publishes English-language Disney comics that are easily available. The economic recession has hit the Baltimore-based publisher hard as it is being sued for unpaid bills. Creditors Trade Association is suing Gemstone, Diamond and owner Steve Geppi for $373,000 on behalf of Global Interprint, which…

Eric Reynolds pissed off Steve Ditko

If Steve Ditko agrees to draw a cover for your magazine or trade paper, you don’t give him suggestions when you receive his artwork, the man knows what he is doing: from How I pissed off Steve Ditko  Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Steve Ditko, Fantagraphics history  8 May 2008 1:41 PM  With our forthcoming opus STRANGE & STRANGE: THE WORLD OF STEVE DITKO hitting in just a few weeks, I thought I would share a brief Steve Ditko story. About ten years ago we had the great fortune of publishing a new series by Mr. Ditko, STEVE DITKO’S STRANGE AVENGING TALES. This was incredibly exciting to me, having been a lifelong Ditko fan. Unfortunately, I did not get to interact much with…

Godzilla

I’m getting all the Japanese Godzilla movies. Not just the old bw movies directed by Inoshiro Honda, but also the later color extravaganzas. So far I’ve got six of those flaming fantasies of urban destruction. In Japan you can get man-size plastic Godzilla figures. That would be nice for the hall. I’m sure there is a little moral message or political statement snuck into those old Gojira movies from the ’50s. I’ve seen the American Godzilla film from about ten years ago. Not really all that good, was it Roland Emmerich who helmed it? But when I’m done with the Japanese Gojira movies, I can always pick up the Hollywood Godzilla. And of course I bought Stephen Bissette’s Godzilla comic book back in the ’80s….

Rand Holmes – canadisk undergrundstegner

The Artist Himself: A Rand Holmes Retrospective (Paperback) by Patrick Rosenkranz (Author) Editorial Reviews Product Description Rand Holmes’ hippie hero, Harold Hedd, became the internationally famous spokesman for the emerging Canadian counterculture. Holmes preferred a lower profile. The Artist Himself: A Rand Holmes Retrospective biography/retrospective includes generous selections from his private journals and correspondence, family photo albums, sketchbooks spanning 25 years, and personal anecdotes…

IDW følger op på succés’erne Dick Tracy, Terry & the Pirates, og Little Orphan Annie. Med disse fire serier er IDW nu den vigtigste medspiller i genoptryksmarkedet i USA. Og endelig kan vi glemme alt om de ombrudte ruder i de danske Agent X9 blade. Publisher’s Weekly skriver: Following the Eisner-award winning Terry and the Pirates, IDW’s Library of American Comics will present Alex Raymond’s modernist classic Rip Kirby in a definitive five-volume archival hardcover series. Edited and designed by Dean Mullaney, Rip Kirby…

Barack and Michelle Obama in comic books

No, I don’t think it’s well drawn, and I didn’t order a copy of the first printing of Amazing Spider-Man #583 with Barack Obama on the cover. I think it’s only the second time that Marvel has a president on the cover of one of their comic books, the first time I think was Richard Nixon back in the ’70s. Anyways, Marvel is now on their fourth printing of the Obama comic, so maybe I should secure a copy. After all, it is historic with Barack Obama. According to Brett Singer, http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/strollerderby/archive/2009/01/14/obama-meets-spider-man.aspx, Marvel has done a fourth printing of Amazing Spider-Man #583: “Amazing, really. To paraphrase Mary Jane Watson (no longer Parker, now that they retconned away her marriage to Peter), “Tiger, Marvel just hit the…
