March should also see the release of Century 21: Classic Comic Strips from the Worlds of Gerry Anderson Volume 1 and Volume 2 from Reynolds & Hearn. Marcus Hearn told me recently: “The books [will] be available in paperback and limited edition hardback. They’re going to include strips from TV Century 21, Lady Penelope and Joe 90. The artists include Frank Bellamy, Martin Asbury, Frank Langford, Mike Noble and Gerry Embleton. Chris Bentley is putting these together for us, and we have a team of four designers working on the restoration. Work on that is now almost complete. Gerry Anderson is our consultant and he’s written the foreword to the first volume. It’s all looking beautiful, and I genuinely can’t wait to see these in print.” Marcus also promised that final covers would be ready shortly.

“Escape From Aquatraz” (ha ha):

Above and beyond the call of duty, vi er bundforkælede:

Those were the days…

Product Description

For the first time, a complete history of the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson television productions which pioneered science-fiction special effects. Film historian Steven La Riviere, whose documentary about Supercar was the final word on the series, takes you behind-the-scenes and covers every aspect of the creation and production of such television shows as Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Secret Service, and Joe 90. The book also covers the Anderson’s efforts from the beginning including Torchy and Four Feather Falls. This full-color art book is packed with hundreds of never-before-seen production photos, artwork, and illustrations making this the definitive book on the subject.

Publishers Reynolds & Hearn have announced details of Volumes One and Two of Century 21, lavish compilations of reprints from the 1960s comics TV Century 21 and Lady Penelope. The books include some of the best strip stories from Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Zero X and Lady Penelope. Each story has been meticulously restored, with most pages reproduced from original artwork unseen for over 40 years.

‘We’ve worked closely with Gerry Anderson since day one of this project,’ says editorial director Marcus Hearn. ‘Gerry is as excited as we are at being able to reprint these stories using modern technology. We all feel that most of this material looks better than it’s ever looked before – even better than it did in the 60s.’

The books have been compiled by former Fanderson chairman Chris Bentley and Volume One features a foreword by Gerry. The artists include such legendary names as Frank Bellamy, Ron Embleton and Mike Noble. The paperback editions of Century 21 will be available in bookshops, priced £14.99 each, on 31 March. Strictly limited edition hardbacks will only be available direct from the publisher and can be pre-ordered from the Reynolds & Hearn website, http://www.rhbooks.com, now.

Hardback editions signed by Gerry Anderson are also available from the website, but these are limited to just 100 copies of each volume.
